Peas For Lunch

I love canned peas. Why do frozen peas have to have all these dents in them? Is it something that happens during the freezing? I like soft, olive-y green canned peas sans mystery dents, thank you.

Should I paint It?

Blogger is pissing me off this week. My husband is pissing me off this week. My stomach is pissing me off this week. Can't everyone just STOP pissing me off?

Glad we got that out of the way.

This weekend is looking to be semi-eventful. We have the annual Baker Reunion in Wyanet on Saturday. It is usually an okay time. I have to give them credit, they have succeeded in having a pretty decent reunion for a very long time. I don't go to hardly any of my family reunions, we only have two (both on my dad's side) and they are usually on a weekend when something else is going on. I am not looking forward to the "take food and eat" part of it because with South Beach I am sure there will be plenty more that I can't eat than what I can eat. Plus it is usually so freaking hot... but this year I am hearing 75 and potential for rain, so that is good. I felt so sick yesterday that I didn't even EAT supper last night. I did have Sugar free Fudge pop when my stomach was growlish, and later at about 11:30pm I had a little bowl of mixed berries. And after I ate the berries my stomach started hurting again. And it hurts today too. I just keep eating mints and chewing gum. Ugh.

My mom read in the paper about a big garage sale on Saturday, so Anya and I are thinking about going and taking Ava. i am more excited about the garage sale than any other weekend activity. I suppose there may be swimming.... or golfing.... but who knows. If I feel this icky, I probably won't care.

Last night while lying in bed in my underwear in the heat, watching TV... I went through about 10-15 magazines, mostly on cottage style decorating. I ripped out all the things that intrigued me, planning on affixing them into my altered journal for future inspiration. Which will save me from hanging onto 15 magazines that I have to look through each time I want to find something good. Although now I am wishing I would have saved some because i could have cut stuff out of them for collages. Oh Pack Rat. Why can't you stop? Crafty Crafty Chick!

So if my weekend goes well, I would like to spend as much of my time altering my journal as possible and as little time talking to others as possible. And I should probably clean the scrapbook room.

I also got a hair up my ass to paint the sewing room. It's already painted white, just cement and brick in the basement. Nothing fancy at all. But suddenly, I want to paint it a bright color. Turquoise. Apple Green. Purple. Anything but WHITE! If I tell my husband he will tell me NO. So I am seriously debating just doing it myself without asking permission or running it by him. Like one day he comes home and I am in shorts and a t-shirt covered in turquoise paint and have half the room painted with all the crap piled on the other side of the room. Hmmmm....

Please tell me in the comments- should I paint it? Should I? Should I? Be a big girl and do it all by myself!?

I heart Liev Schreiber

I can't help it. Ever since Walk on the Moon with Diane Lane.... and now I see previews for him on the Omen remake and I am like WOW. I am glad he has another on screen role (Scream trilogy, although I never saw Scream 2 or 3) And I hope that he is great in it. I will probably never see it because I don't see Scary Movies, with the exception of Scary Movie (LOL)

But he is dating Naomi Watts, and that's cool. But am I alone in thinking this guy is super handsome? And his personality just sort of comes right through. He seems like the kind of guy to take care of a woman, and that I like. Girls? Boys? What are your thoughts?

Husband HNT

I have to tell you, I have just not been feeling well! It's not like sick like can't work and can't eat. It's just like "annoying" not feeling well. Hormonal I am sure. Ugh. I go through entire days of wanting to choke my husband, and then entire days of feeling sorry for him because I am so moody lately. So today's HNT is my husband, exactly as I saw him this morning. He slept right through the flash and everything. He looked so sweet and peaceful, such a nice husband! And then 5 minutes later when I couldn't find the dog leashes and asked him where he put them, he got up, stomped around, said "Are you stupid?" and stomped out the front door in his boxer shorts and grabbed them where he left them, and then he Slammed the door. And now, I want to choke him again. Ahhh.... love and marriage.

We're Halfway There...

Good morning! Today and the rest of the week I will be working earlier than usual... which means I have to wake up earlier than usual. Cause and Effect.

Let's see... what do I have to talk about? Oh not much. Last night I had a meeting and I learned even more goodies about NeighborMom. I had heard before that she had ran out screaming at a man who was mowing a yard and got too close to her property line, but afterwards she put out these ridiculous little plastic fences on her property line to prevent them from mowing too close and prove her point. And when she was yelling at the poor MowerMan, I heard there was profanity used. All over an accidental mowing. I also heard that she sent NeighborBoyfriend out on a mission, and when NeighborByofriend saw MowerMen mowing a business in Princeton, she made NeighborBoyfriend go out to the mowers and threaten them with a lawsuit and legal action. How ridiculous is this? My family has told me that it is time to begin documenting every time I see the NeighborDog in my yard, and everytime the Neighbor Dog barks for 14 continuous hours while tangled around a tree behind my house. And so, the documentation begins. I was also determining how NeighborMom would sue me if she started reading my blog and thought I was tarnishing her "good name" **snicker** good name. LOL. But I figure that I have never mentioned names, or addresses, or where she works, or anything randomly identifying except that she is an annoying neighbor.... and where's the crime in that?

After my meeting I went home and took a nice long walk around town, complete with iPod and flip flops. At the end of my walk I decided to sit on the swing in the yard, and singing along with my iPod, and I didn't have to worry about bothering NeighborFamily because as soon as the temperatures got to 70 degrees, they started closing up the windows and hibernating inside with the AC on. Which is nice because then we can't hear NeighborMom barking orders at the NeighborKids. So I was able to sing along, and eventually I slid into a lying down and rocking on the swing position, where I stayed for a couple of hours... until it got super cool and breezy outside and I decided to go to sleep, somewhere around midnight. When I got up I felt that my ass and side of my leg was wet because apparently the swing cushion was damp and I didn't even realize it. Oh whatever.

I spent most of my time on the swing planning out a mental fence between NeighborHouse and my property line. I was trying to determine if a zoning board would permit a fence to be built, whether or not NeighborMom would follow in her traditional bitch-like manner and object to the fence, and whether or not she would attempt to slap a lawsuit on me for having a fence in my own yard. Then I grinned with Glee when I thought of my own lawyer and his evil genious-ness. I also thought about NeighborDog and his neverending yip yap anklebiter bark, for hours and hours from 7am through 2pm everyday as they are holed up in their AC and tie him out alone in their yard, or my yard, whichever seemed to suit them at the time.

And I thought about how I had heard rumors that a Local Manufacturing Plant could be moving to Mexico, which is where NeighborBoyfriend works, and how the rumors said that if the plant moved, so would NeighborMom and NeighborBoyfriend.... and all my problems would be SOLVED! At least temporarily. And while I don't want a manufacturing facility to close, and many people here to lose their jobs, including many people that I know and like, I can't help but selfishly hope that NeighborMom has to move back down south and leave the nice little town of Wyanet alone.

Never Argue

One morning the husband returns after several hours of fishing and decides
to take a nap. Although not familiar with the lake, the wife decides to
take the boat out. She motors out a short distance, anchors, and reads her book.

Along comes a Game Warden in his boat. He pulls up alongside the woman and
says, "Good morning, Ma'am. What are you doing?"

"Reading a book," she replies, (thinking, "Isn't that obvious?")
"You're in a Restricted Fishing Area," he informs her.
"I'm sorry, officer, but I'm not fishing. I'm reading."
"Yes, but you have all the equipment. For all I know you could start at
any moment. I'll have to take you in and write you up."

"If you do that, I'll have to charge you with sexual assault," says the
woman.

"But I haven't even touched you," says the game warden.
"That's true, but you have all the equipment. For all I know you could
start at any moment."
"Have a nice day ma'am," and he left.

MORAL: Never argue with a woman who reads. It's likely she can also think.

I am a Rock, I am an Island

Ugh. Cable! How frustrating can it be! This morning we had a "cable appointment" and of course they gave us the silly "time range" of 8am-10am. So I got up at 7:30, pulled on capri pants and a tank top, made the bed, rinsed the dishes, let the dogs out, and crashed on the couch to wait. Husband decided that since he wasn't "required" for this visit (WTF?!) he could go sleep in the spare bedroom. How unfair is that? What he SHOULD Have done? Wait for the cable guys while I showered and got ready for work, so that when 10:15 came, I could leave for work as usual. Instead, he slept. Pissed, I decided to nap also. I would wake up when the doorbell rang, and when the attack dogs tried to rip off their legs as they approached the house. So I napped on my freshly made bed from 8am till 9:57am when they FINALLY showed up. Yeah. So when they got done I had to hurry up and get ready so I wouldn't be toooo late at work... even though work was duly notified of cable appointment. But how annoying is that 2 hour time frame anyway?

So cable duties done, I will now tell you about "yesterday" before I head out the door for the day. Yesterday was Boyd's surgery. I took him to the vet in the morning, once again up at 7:30am. Ick. evan picked him up in the afternoon, and they decided to actually remove the polyp, so he has two internal stitches that will dissolve. He is fine, acting as normal as ever. Yesterday afternoon he slept a decent amount, and when I got home at 5:30, he moved and came to see me. Then last night I accidentally took a nap from 6pm-8pm, when I woke up to the doorbell ringing and my husband gone. Well, I remained froze into bed because I was only in a tank top and underwear, and if I stood up to look outside, the front door is like 5 feet from my bedroom so they would have "seen me" and so I lay there in stealth mode wondering where the fuck my husband was. About 2 minutes later, as I lay there trying to wake my ass up and wondering who in the hell was at our house.... Evan came up from the basement and was like "who was here?" and I said "how the hell should I know, I was asleep and I have no pants on!" so he called his friend Joe, and sure enough.... it was him.

So I got up and ate something, and then I went for a nice long walk. When I came back, I watched some Reality TV that I didn't even want to watch on VH1... Some Anna Nicole Smith show (she IS a moron, isn't she!) and then something about the wackiest celebrity baby names. then I went to bed and watched the last episode of the Law and Order SVU that I had TIVO'd on the cable box that they were taking away this morning.

And then at 12:56am I went to sleep.

Exciting! Wonderous! Fabulous! That's my life in a nutshell. Work/Eat/Nap/Eat/Sleep then start the cycle all over again.

Smart Spin

If you do not have a "smart spin" please go get one now. Now! Do it! I held off as long as I could. After selling Pampered Chef and "almost" selling tupperware, I have my fair share of kitchen goodies. After hosting two $1000 Tupperware Parties, I had Rock n' serves out the wazoo and all KINDS of nesting bowls. I kept telling myself YOU DO NOT NEED ANYMORE CONTAINERS! I have the tupperware lid holder and while it is fabulously holding my lids, I have more lids than it can hold! How annoying! And besides the rock n serves, the tupperware containers in general just don't fit well in the fridge... as far as using space wisely. I am a tupperware cheerleader, but The worst part about tupperware? If something in the back of the fridge gets yucky, instead of throwing away a cheap container, I have to be brave to the point of insanity and clean the container out because IT COSTS TOO MUCH!

My life has changed. My friend CB had the smart spins. One day on our pic-i-nic she made me egg salad and I took the container home with me. I liked it! It washed up nicely in the dishwasher, it wasn't flimsy and it didn't get all peely in the dishwasher. Hmmm.... Next thing you know, my MOM has one! Hmmm.... one late Sunday night at Wal-mart last week I was tempted and for $19.99 I bought the smart spin system. And even after having it one week- I CAN NOT LIVE WITHOUT IT and you shouldn't either. How easy it is to find the right size container, to find the lid, to just grab and go! They have been through the fridge, microwave, dishwasher! They have been to work! I LOVE THEM!

So please, take it from me, do me a favor, do YOU a favor, break down and get one. It will be THE best $20 you have spent in a long long while, and your cupboards and your sanity will thank you!

Laundry

I have to get up in 6 hours and I am not even sleeping yet! icky! I have gotten soooo much done today! Yesterday I slept till noon. I had been up till about 2:30 the night before, I babysat Ava from about 7-12pm and then Anya and I sat at my house chatting till about 2:30am. When I got up Saturday, we went to Princeton and got baby clothes at the garage sale of a co-workers daughter, she sold me a tote 3/4 full of baby clothes for $20. I went with Anya, but of course I couldn't resist that great of a deal. She had cute stuff and it was nice and clean.

Saturday night my mom came over and Evan and Mom and I went out to eat at the Chinese Buffet in Peru, then to big Lots. On the way home we stopped at Dairy Queen in Princeton and then at The Dawg House for a drink, where I was happy to see Trish!

Today I slept till about 11:30. Then I picked up all over the house, cleaned the back porch, cleaned the kitchen, ran the dishwasher and unloaded/reloaded it twice... and Cleaned the icky dirty laundry room. Then Evan and his dad put my new(er) dryer in place, that had been sitting in the garage since December. I bought it from Brad and Anya when they moved because they had two washers and three dryers suddenly!

So tonight I went to Wal-Mart, where they have NO BOTTLED WATER (and I mean NONE) and this is the 9th day straight that they haven't had any. Ridiculous! We just got our water quality report and Wyanet has unacceptable levels of lead and arsenic in the water. What else is new? So I got $130 worth of necessities (toothpaste, shampoo, salad, etc) and put a new garbage can on layaway for the kitchen. And of course, because I went to Wal-mart kinda skanky, in flip flops and a ratty t-shirt with half my hair piled messily on top of my head with a clip and no makeup.... I ran into a friend who I hadn't really seen since High School. Of Course.

Then I came home, unloaded everything, washed stoneware, proceeded with laundry, watered hostas, put out the new dog tie outs and threw out the old ones... and I am about ready to fall over dead but I am trying to get as much done as I can before the cleaning people come tomorrow... I just have so much to pick up and organize every week so they can clean! Slobs that we are!

Hope you are all sleeping!

Rene

I was reading this post recently, by J's Mommy. She was talking about how she has a potential new friend right next door, and that she is so excited, and is afraid she will be so excited that she will scare her away. When I read that I laughed, because It's rare that you meet new people living where we live, and it's rare that you meet a new person who is "friend" material. It's just a small town, new people don't move in all that often, and new people your age with similar interests don't move in to often either. So her post made me chuckle.

And this morning I had a revelation.

When we went to Chicago for the Cubs game, I may have mentioned that we met my friend PG's friend Rene. The first thing I noticed about her? Thin, blonde, chic looking in her cool coat... and SO looking like she wouldn't like frumpy me in a sweatshirt. But the second thing I noticed? Rene was awesome. She was so warm and fun! She had hilarious stories and all of us just clicked instantly. Even though we had never met before, my husband and I agreed with my longtime friend Angela, that we felt like we had known her forever. She lives in Chicago now but she is from New York, and works in publishing. Her job seems so glamorous and the whole New York thing.... wow. We all kinda fell in love with Rene! You may recall that I mentioned we chatted about blogging, she doesn't blog but is familiar with blogging, knows some bloggers, reads some blogs, and knows the fallout that is caused when a blogger with a "mystery identity" is revealed... especially when she is blogging about work (which I do not do, just to point out to you!)

I gave Rene my blog/website address. I hoped to hear from her and I didn't. For a while. Then one day I mentioned to my friend PG that I hadn't heard from her. I instantly thought "she went to my blog and she was like 'This is so lame'" and so she didn't even comment or anything. I will probably never hear from her again! And then I sent the pictures that we took to PG, who forwarded them to Rene, and she emailed me! I don't know if she wanted to, or if PG made her feel bad because he mentioned that I hadn't heard from her, but I was SOOO super excited! I wanted to write back immediately... and then it happened. I had nothing to say. Nothing!

Everything I thought of typing sounded so LAME-O and boring midwest-ish that I couldn't bring myself to write Rene an email that had no point! No Fire! No trendy cool... something! I mean her name is cool. Her clothes are cool. She's from New York! And I am going to write her an email about.... what? The jar of gummy worms on my desk being almost empty? My car needing an oil change? Buying cheese at the bar? I can't even imagine? Why would she want to hear anything that I have to say? So I totally panicked. And I didn't write her back. I just kept putting it off, and putting it off.... and now it's like "It's been too long and it looks like you don't even like her" when the reality is "I really thought she was so cool that I can't bear to send her a stupid email and have her never speak to me again!"

Is this bizarre? My god! I keep thinking that anyday something exciting and worthy of Rene will happen and I can totally email her and have some great thing to say! Like "Hey Rene it's great to hear from you! I am sorry I didn't write back sooner but I won the lottery!" Or maybe "I bought a fabulous new car!" or "we were on VACATION!" or "I'm pregnant!" (don't get started people, that's just an example of good and worthy news!)

So it's like everyday I see Rene's email in my inbox and I inwardly groan. I want to write back to her SOOO BADLY but I am like WHAT do I SAY that is worthy of a chick with such a cool name?! ( I have a great uncle Rene, ironic?) But I am just at such a LOSS!

I mean it's not like Rene and I will ever hang out every weekend, we are 2 hours away from each other and all that. But her husband worked in Austin and taught school at the SAME LOCATION where they shot my FAVORITE move Dazed and Confused! He took her all over Austin and showed her the places where certain scenes were shot! I was like NO WAY! How cool is that? I didn't get to meet her husband while we were there but I was super excited about that. It was just so neat!

But how boring am I, that I started (or elongated at least) a discussion about TV antennas and why we need them on our roofs out in BFE. I am sure Rene was fascinated. Damn!

So hope that something exciting happens soon because I really really want to write Rene back, without scaring her away. Any advice?

I was Questioned by the Po-Lice!

Quick Update before I begin to ramble.... of what happened last night. First, when I got home I got immediately questioned by the police! A neighbor (not those neighbors, but another) had their house burglarized! Yikes!

I also watched Ava for about an hour while her mom and dad took a bike ride. Then I hung out and ate a Taco salad without lettuce because that damn Wal-Mart sells bags of lettuce and salad that are 1 day from their due date, and mine was already slimy and I had Just Bought it like Wednesday. Seriously what is UP with that?

Then I crocheted for a long while. Then I read Jenny McCarthy's book "Belly laughs" (yes, all in one sitting, about an hour it took me) and then I went to sleep at about 2:38am.

This morning I got up early (husband snoring, want to leave work at a decent time tonight) and I should be at work before 9am, which is an hour and a half earlier than usual.

And then I found out that I lost the back off one of my diamond earrings, but luckily caught it in time to save the earring. So now It's Hi-ho, Hi-ho, Back to Zales I go....

And that's that! I will br writing a big post later but I just wanted to get this one out before I go to work for the day! Have a good Friday!

The Crushing Story of my Barbie Dream House

I will never ever ever forget the way I felt the day I asked my mom for my Barbie Dream House. When I was a kid, I had a 1978 A Frame Barbie Dream House. It was so big you could CRAWL through it. It had tons of furniture, plants, great big french doors and all kinds of plastic windows. It seperated into three pieces and it was red, yellow, ornage, and white. Technically it wasn't "mine"- it was a hand-me-down from my cousin Angie, but I was always a Barbie girl. It was my house more than anyones. And I thought my whole life that I would have that house forever. Nothing otherwise ever crossed my mind. When my husband and I moved into our own house, one of the things that I wanted at my house was the Barbie Dream House. I asked my mom and she gave me various hints as to where she thought it was packed away. I looked everywhere. I found all my barbies, various bits and pieces of furniture, pots and pans, etc.... but no dream house... and none of the "original furniture." It MUST be here somewhere? We looked in boxes, barrels, storage locations.... nothing. I was getting more upset by the minute. I think my mom thought I would just "forget about it." But I couldn't. That damn house was the symbol of all my childhood memories and I HAD TO HAVE IT.

I spent about a year searching, asking questions, trying to find the dream house... and then one day, it's like my mom had finally decided to tell the truth and end my quest. Put me out of my misery. She just said, "You know, it seems like I remember maybe having that dream house on a garage sale...." all casual like.

WHAT! I practically FLIPPED OUT! "YOU SOLD MY BARBIE DREAM HOUSE!!! You COULDN'T! You DIDN'T!" I started looking all over ebay. These houses were going for $200-400. I have a friend who has a spoiled rotten little daughter. My friend had the pink version of the same dreamhouse, and her daughter played with it and I wanted it so bad I offered her $100 for it. It wasn't my yellow and orange model, but it was damn close. I still to this DAY can not believe she sold my barbie dream house. Eventually I gave up and I bought a new barbie dream house. A new fangled "foldable" version that is les than 1/8 the size of mine and nowhere near as cool. I bought a barbie Beach house. I bought a Barbie Horse Stable. I was not able to fill the void left by that Dream House and I never will. It was my DREAM HOUSE for god's sakes!

There were other toys that I would love to see again. The original 1978 Speak n Spell with the raised letters. We spent HOURS trying to figure out if he was saying "L" or "M." The bottons came off. That made me the wheel of fortune and Hangman champion that I am today. We had the "Little Professor" for math problems and the Blue Alphie Robot with the slide in cards and the red button on his head. I had (and thank GOD I still have) almost all the original strawberry shortcake dolls. My little sister had the talking Teddy Ruxpin and I had "Scrub a dub dog" that went in the bathtub. I had "Dotty Dog" from the getalong gang, in her red and white cheerleader outfit with the red bows on her ears and red plastic skates that went over her shoes.

And how about fashion plates? I had (and still have) Barbie Fashion plates, Cabbage Patch Fashion Plates, and Strawberry Shortcake Fashion Plates. My sister had New Kids on the Block Fashion Plates. I am glad my mom was smart enough to save those! We spent HOURS on fashion plates. The endless combinations... the colors... the possibilities! So glad to be able to share those with my kids someday.

I am not completely crazy, my husband still hasn't forgiven his mom for selling his GI Joe's on a garage sale and also the He-Man Action Figures and Castle Grey Skull. It just isn't right. I vow to respect my childrens posessions just a little bit more, and let them help decide which toys go, and which ones stay.

A Man will say anything to Sell his Sausage!

As you can see by my HNT Picture, last night I crocheted several "passes" on the 4-year blanket. I think I made it across about 4 times. I watched 2 episodes of Law and Order SVU that I had Tivo'd. I am trying to get all the Tivo'd shows off the box in our bedroom so that I can call the cable company and have them take it back. When we first considered the second box, the representative told me I would be able to record twice as much and have twice as much space to record. She lied. She didn't have a freaking clue what she was talking about. The space and the number of things we can record at once is shared between the two boxes. I have been paying $15.95 a month extra for a box that doesn't give us anything extra really. So I am going to call and have them remove it, and also have them change our package and decrease our channels. I would like to keep the Encore movie channels and Comedy Central and Cartoon Network, but we can lose the sports and also all the other cartoon channels. That will save us some case, probably $20-$25 a month.

Last night I went to the Dawg House (bar in Wyanet) and bought some cheese from the "cheese man." Just like any man... he lied about his sausage. I said "how much is your summer sausage?" and he said "$10.50." By the look on his face he could tell I thought that was expensive. "But that's for XXounces" he said, "and it's about (holding out his hands) this long..." I must have still looked skeptical. He said (it's like what your first boyfriend tells you) "That's the only size they come in." And then he proceeded to say "I know it's a lot but the sell by date isn't till September so it will keep for a really long time." and so I bought one to go with my apple jack cheese and the garlic cheese curds. And after he left, I was having a drink with Anya and my long lost and good friend Dave Lewis, and I looked at the sausage and saw "sell by date July 2006." Damn it! Fooled again! Moral of the story: Never believe what a guy says about his sausage! OH well.

When I got home, Evan and I watched a bit o'TV. I ate a chicken salad wrap. I cut out another set of fabric for my next moopy. Husband said my feet were stinky (damn pantyhose!) and so I took a bath and started crocheting. I went to sleep about 2:53am.

This morning I did NOT want to get up. Instead of getting up at 9am as I usually do, I woke up at 10:08 and got ready for work and was walking out the door in exactly 10 minutes. Which means that I look freaking Beautiful today. No makeup (except Mascara), threw on clothes (clean ones though) and threw my hair in a ponytail (with the fake ponytail attachment.) and Voila! Instant Gratification. I walked in the door to work on time, even after having to pass three farmers going 40mph and staring at the fields.

swEEt! Tonight? Maybe I will sew my next moopy, or maybe I will cut another moopy and make two at once. Or maybe I will crochet or maybe Anya will teach me how to knit. Or maybe I will do laundry. Or maybe I will roll around naked in a pile of Benjamins. Or maybe I will take the dragon out for a fly. Or maybe I will stare at the longaberger catalog, make a retirement card for my friend KVD, or a graduation card for AV. Or maybe I will pose for Playboy, get PMOY and a new Dodge Charger Super Bee! Oh the possibilities are endless!
